“TNT” Tannat 2016

“There’s something so inviting about this wine. It’s the epitome of a chillable red”

I have to admit it. I’m a sucker for labels. When I see something beautifully designed, my curiosity is piqued. When that curiosity is rewarded by a wine that’s vibrant and interesting, it’s the best of all possible circumstances!

My friend Ezra just started an importation and distribution company called Kily Import and I’m super excited for him. We share a lot of opinions about wine: that it’s often best when made as naturally as possible, and coaxed carefully into existence by a steady hand in the winery and vineyard. When Ezra showed me this wine and I tasted it, I knew I had to share it with you too.

Tannat is a strange grape. It’s made in both Southwestern France and Uruguay, where it often makes wines that are at turns either massive and brooding, or big and fruity. Oftentimes it’s so tannic, it’s borderline unpleasantly bitter. This wine is totally special and different.

When I tasted this ruby-colored, medium-bodied wine from Day Wines, I was hooked. There’s something so inviting about this wine. It’s the epitome of a chillable red: throw this into the fridge for an hour and enjoy the crisp nature of this wine’s red raspberry-pomegranate notes, soft tannins, and black tea aromatics.

Roast Chicken

There’s so many ways to roast a chicken. Maybe it’s been a busy day and you just need to grab a rotisserie bird on the way home. If you’re in the mood to do some cooking, I highly recommend this tremendous recipe for Roast Chicken with Charred Lemon and Caperberries, I’ve made it a few times at home and it always turns out great. There’s few things more heartwarming than crispy torn bread covered in chicken drippings.

Cauliflower

I love pretty much everything that the Israeli-English Chef Yotam Ottolenghi makes. Many of his recipes include pomegranate, which adds texture, tartness, sweetness and pop. There’s a distinct pomegranate note in this TNT Tannat, which is why I recommend making a salad that incorporates it. Ottolenghi’s Cauliflower-Pomegranate Salad is a refreshing dish with tons of color and flavor. Check it out.
