09 Clio Jumilla, Spain $45.95 While they last!
The most highly sought after Spanish wine is Back! The 2009 Clio, from Jumilla, is 70% Monastrell (Mourvedre) and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Clio boasts Chris Ringland (who made Penfolds Grange for 20 or so years) as their winemaker. An opulent, powerful wine with sweet oak, espresso, creme de cassis, layers of flavor and an incredibly long finish. Clio will grab you by the nose, then coat your mouth and take you on a long ride. They’re never around for long. Big, full-fruited reds love densely flavored dishes. Braised beef with red wine reduction makes a fine match. Definitely wild with wild boar and yummy with chocolate, too.
