09 Gramercy Cellars Walla Walla Syrah $43.95

Wine Spectator (94 pts.) Yes, its for wines like this we risked it all. The 2009 Walla Walla is the first Walla Walla Syrah that could be labeled a single vineyard wine. It’s from the Les Collines Vineyard, mostly from the upper slopes. Slopes rule. We only destemmed a tiny fraction of the grapes. Stems rule. Slopes AND stems rule. After fermentation, we put the wine in 500L puncheons and some 225L neutral barrels and forgot about it for 15 months. The result is an insanely aromatic, Rhone-like Syrah. Smoked meat, bacon and perfume. Definitively our best yet.

Supple, slinky and opulent, with black olive, oatmeal and mace overtones to the blackberry and plum fruit, tightly knit and getting spicier as the finish persists. Drink now through 2019.-
